Letting the Light In.

I woke up on our connecting flight to S. Africa August 26th 2022 a little after 3 am but as I peaked out the window to bask in the darkness of the night it was bright outside. No darkness, no night, only daylight. It made me question if it was actually 3am or if it was 3pm.

The light woke me up prepared me for the day. I left the window open just a little bit so the light would pour in and I decided to just sit in the presence of God for a bit, trying to soak in his peace.

I saw a few other people open their window shade slightly. The tiny bit of light from the 1 inch gap lit up the whole window frame. I lifted the window shade more, only slightly, and a few people in row 36 started to squirm as their still sleeping eyes had to adjust to the new darkness of the plane. I closed the shade back to where it was.

This is how we live though. We wake up and start living in the reality of Christ. We are called to be a light to the world but as we open up our window shade and see the world begin to squirm and shift we close the window. We recede to a place of less light to make those around us more comfortable. And as I closed the window I closed my eyes wiling to give into the comfort of the darkness.

And on a plane it’s courteous to close the window for those sleeping, but in life this analogy becomes real life we not only hurt ourselves by not letting the window shine brighter. We also don’t let others experience the glory of the light or the beauty of the day by keeping them in a constant state of slumber. It's my goal thought this trip to live intentionally in this way. : )
